    I wonder if there is someone who decided to call themselves Gaius. After all, Caesar's full name is Gaius Julius Caesar. Personal name Gaius, of the Julian clan, clan branch Caesar. Thank goodness for google.

    Caesar has appeared twice (0092 and 0204 HKSAR Name of the Day). Oops, having looked at them, I realize it is the same person representing his field (linguistics) in different capacities. A cunning linguist no less.

    Not had Gaius yet … but there is always time for someone who wishes to stand out from his peers and adopt a novel name.

    I think the most famous Julius Caesar would be very pleased that his name is still remembered after 2,000 years!

    There are still a few names used now that are, I think, Roman in origin. Eg Julia, Olivia, Anthony, Adrian, Felix etc. Along with some Greek ones, eg Alexander (!), though the Macedonians claim him as their own.
